This brochure offers practical guidance on constructive accountability in the workplace. It includes guidelines to help employees address concerns with a colleague effectively, as well as guidance on how to respond appropriately when being confronted. These guidelines can be used by officials and others who are responsible for promoting and developing integrity within the organisation, for example during information sessions or employee training.

Working together involves mutual dependence. To achieve organisational objectives and collaborate in a productive and positive manner, employees must be able to hold one another accountable. This responsibility does not rest solely with supervisors; all employees share responsibility for fostering a culture of integrity. Holding one another accountable is therefore a key element of such a culture.

This brochure approaches accountability from two perspectives: that of the employee who raises an issue and that of the colleague who is being addressed. Employees and employers also have a legal obligation to treat one another appropriately.
